Multiple Research Fellow (postdoctoral) positions at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore
Nanyang Technological University
A research-intensive public university, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) has 33,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in the Engineering, Business, Science, Humanities, Arts, & Social Sciences, and Graduate colleges. It also has a medical school, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, established jointly with Imperial College London.
NTU is also home to world-class autonomous institutes – the National Institute of Education, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Earth Observatory of Singapore, and Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering – and various leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute (NEWRI) and Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N).
Ranked amongst the world’s top universities by QS, NTU has also been named the world’s top young university for the past seven years. The University’s main campus is frequently listed among the Top 15 most beautiful university campuses in the world and has 57 Green Mark-certified (equivalent to LEED-certified) buildings, of which 95% are certified Green Mark Platinum. Apart from its main campus, NTU also has a campus in Novena, Singapore’s healthcare district.
Under the NTU Smart Campus vision, the University harnesses the power of digital technology and tech-enabled solutions to support better learning and living experiences, the discovery of new knowledge, and the sustainability of resources.

Seismology (SM)
Tectonics and Structural Geology (TS)
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, is looking to hire a total of 5 Research Fellow positions:
(1) Research Fellow (Paleoseismology & Neotectonics)
We are looking for a Research Fellow to lead paleoseismic trench investigations to reconstruct past fault activity. The role will focus on mapping potentially active faults, planning trench geometry, directing excavation, leading trench logging in the field, and interpreting stratigraphic and structural evidence for past earthquakes, then synthesising trench, dating, and sedimentological results into site reports suitable for technical review and possible publication.
(2) Research Fellow (GNSS Processing & Analysis)
We are looking for a Research Fellow to join EOS. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Asst Prof Lujia FENG and focus on GNSS data processing and analysis for tectonic deformation studies. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct high-quality research using geodetic observations to quantify crustal deformation, characterize fault-slip processes, and improve our understanding of earthquake hazards. The candidate will develop and maintain GNSS processing workflows, contribute to the interpretation of geodetic observations, and support ongoing research projects within the tectonics and geodesy research programme. The RF is also expected to contribute actively to other research activities within EOS.
(3) Research Fellow (Seismic Source Characterisation)
We are looking for a Research Fellow to develop the seismic-source component of Singapore’s national seismic hazard model. The role will focus on compiling and evaluating earthquake and fault datasets, modelling source geometry and earthquake occurrence, quantifying epistemic uncertainty, and building auditable logic-tree inputs for probabilistic seismic hazard assessments (PSHA).
(4) Research Fellow (Ground Motion Characterisation)
We are looking for a Research Fellow to develop the ground-motion component of Singapore’s national seismic hazard model. The role will focus on evaluating regional and global strong-motion data, selecting and adjusting ground-motion models, characterising site response and uncertainty, and building auditable logic-tree inputs for probabilistic seismic hazard assessments (PSHA).
(5) Research Fellow (Geotechnics & Geophysics)
We are looking for a Research Fellow to 1) curate and integrate available geotechnical, geological, and geophysical datasets; 2) develop 3D models for the characterization of near-surface geological formations; 3) develop geophysical methods for imaging and characterizing subsurface structures.
These cluster hires will contribute to an integrated programme spanning fault assessment, seismic and geodetic monitoring, earthquake physics, ground-motion modelling, site response, exposure and vulnerability, and probabilistic seismic hazard and risk assessment, working to strengthen Singapore’s national capabilities. New hires will join a multidisciplinary research team spanning Nanyang Technological University’s Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS), Asian School of the Environment (ASE), and School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). Interested candidates should submit the following documents:
- A current curriculum vitae (CV)
- A succinct cover letter (not more than one page) detailing research interests and relevant experience
- The name and contact information for 3 references; institutional e-mail addresses are preferred, but other addresses will be accepted with suitable explanation
- If the candidate has relevant publications, they may include web links (URLs) in the CV or as an annex to the cover letter (this will not count toward the one-page limit)
The cover letter should make clear which position you are applying for.
If you wish to apply for more than one position, you may submit a separate cover letter for each position.
Again, make clear which position each cover letter is targeting.
All of the above files should be uploaded under the heading “Resume/CV” in the job application system.
