The EGU 2024 Science-Policy Pairing Scheme with MEP Jutta Paulus

The 2024 Pairing Scheme was with Jutta Paulus, a German Member of the European Parliament (MEP), representing the Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance and EGU member, Bianca Drepper. Due to the 2024 European Elections, the Pairing Scheme took place in January 2025 rather than in late 2024.

Ms Paulus is a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Transport and Tourism. Before joining the Parliament, Paulus worked as a pharmacist, founded a laboratory for environmental and pollutant analysis, and had an extensive political career in Germany.

Following her week in the Parliament, Drepper shared some key take-home messages via a GeoPolicy Blog post, "Researchers need to remember that MEPs receive a lot of input every day, and our outreach activities may just be a drop in the ocean of inputs that stream into their inboxes. While much of the information that we provide won’t make it into the legislative discussion, some well-communicated aspects occasionally do and it is still worth trying! So don’t be afraid to reach out and start engaging!"
