The adoption of TEOS-10 in both numerical model and observationally based studies, through the development and promotion of the Gibbs SeaWater (GSW) Oceanographic Toolbox of TEOS-10, has cemented the use of the more accurate thermodynamic equation of seawater by the entire ocean scientific community.

Fabio is a post-doc researcher at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (DISAT) at the University of Milano-Bicocca who co-founded the outreach organisation GeoSocial Science & Media . During the EGU General assembly, Fabio and members of the EGU Outreach Committee visited the International School in Vienna to tell them more about Fabio’s fabulous work.

He also carried out another landmark study of Holocene terraces in the upper catchment of the San Gabriel River in California, which are considered as the archetype example of climate-driven terraces.
Home / Membership / Benefits
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is Europe’s premier geoscience society, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences for the benefit of humanity and the planet. Membership is open to individuals who subscribe to the objectives of the EGU and who are professionally engaged in, or associated with, either the Earth, planetary, and space sciences or related fields of study.

I will show that the opening of ocean gateways played a crucial but secondary role in the onset of Antarctic glaciation, that the first circumpolar flow of surface water was slow but destroyed the existing subpolar gyres.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2015 / Anna-Lena Deppenmeier
The poster presented at EGU 2015 shows the results of a CMIP5 multi-model analysis in wich the Bjerknes feedback, a mechanism which is thought to be one of the main drivers of interannual TAV, is investigated. The results show that the models simulate a certain part of that mechanism well, while another part is misrepresented, leading to wrong variability in the models.
Home / Awards & medals / Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards / 2022 / Marlene Kretschmer
Succeeding analyses have strengthened this result, highlighting the role of the stratosphere and extending the understanding thus gained to climate change simulations. Collectively, Kretschmer’s work has raised the standard of scientific rigour in the controversial topic of Arctic sea-ice midlatitude teleconnections and has provided a new paradigm for physically-based hypothesis testing in the face of model uncertainty.
