The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is Europe’s premier geoscience society, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences for the benefit of humanity and the planet. Membership is open to individuals who subscribe to the objectives of the EGU and who are professionally engaged in, or associated with, either the Earth, planetary, and space sciences or related fields of study.
Home / News / Webinars and online events / Air Pollution with Craig Poku
In this Webinar, EGU will be sitting to talk interview-style with Dr. Craig Poku, atmospheric scientist at the University of York. We’ll be asking our expert how air pollution is impacting humans and who is bearing the greater burden of its ill effects? Will climate change impact the future of air pollution?

In this session, we’ll discuss the existing geodynamic processes and state-of-the-art studies of the oceanic to continental subduction processes. The aim is to better understand the geodynamics of plate convergence, the role of oceanic crust, and the transition between subduction and collision.
Home / Awards & medals / Plinius Medal / 2016 / Benjamin P. Horton
He has developed very strong networks of interdisciplinary collaborators and is particularly effective in designing and implementing collaborative research programmes that go well beyond his personal areas of expertise and extend worldwide, for example as project leader of the International Geoscience Programme 588.
Home / Awards & medals / Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards / 2018 / Thomas Wahl
He is author of interdisciplinary publications in top professional journals, including two in Nature Communications and one in Nature Climate Change, spanning the areas of oceanography, hydrology, statistical modelling and coastal engineering.
Home / News / Press releases / Jane Qiu and Jane Palmer awarded EGU Science Journalism Fellowship
A recipient of many fellowships and travel grants, Qiu has gained an in-depth understanding of the Earth system by tagging along with field scientists in far-flung corners of the world. In 2016, she received an AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award, an Asian Environmental Journalism Award, and a Pulitzer Centre on Crisis Reporting travel grant.

Nadia Pinardi The 2007 Fridtjof Nansen Medal is awarded to Nadia Pinardi for her valuable promotion of physical oceanography and her distinguished leadership in operational oceanography of the Mediterranean Sea. Professor Nadia Pinardi has from the very beginning of her career developed and led a network of young and promising colleagues and scientists.

Specific policies should include: the fight against deforestation and over exploitation of soil resources; soil erosion control in arid and semiarid areas; the co-ordination of soil maps; inventories of soil risk areas. This is particularly prevalent in the context of climate change, the role played by soil as a resource for carbon sequestration, and mitigation of global warming should be attended.
Home / Awards & medals / Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards / 2017 / Francesco Muschitiello
Through the study of terrestrial sites in southern Sweden and marine records in the Norwegian seas during his PhD, Muschitiello’s research has evaluated the role of Scandinavian Ice Sheet melt as a driver of hydroclimatic shifts across the northern north Atlantic at the onset of the cold climate conditions of the Younger Dryas (~12,800 years ago).
Home / Awards & medals / Louis Néel Medal / 2024 / Patrick Baud
Patrick Baud is receiving the Louis Néel medal of the EGU Earth Magnetism and Rock Physics division for his outstanding accomplishments in rock mechanics and for his important applications in relation to geo-energy resources, geological storage of renewable energy, and assessment of environmental, seismic and volcanic hazards.
