Furthermore, freshwater plastic pollution is also considered the dominant source of plastic input to the oceans. Despite this, research on plastic pollution in freshwater environments and data and knowledge from field studies are still limited. This session will explore the current state of knowledge and activities on macro-, micro- and nanoplastics in freshwater systems.

He was the first to simulate and numerically model meandering rivers with riparian vegetation in both laboratory and digital models, resolving a long-standing challenge in the field. His research covers rivers, deltas, estuaries, valleys, and debris flow on Earth and Mars, with major innovations in sediment mixture studies, the use of live vegetation, and the identification of experimental conditions that mimic natural landscapes.

Giorgia Dalla Santa completed her PhD at the Department of Geosciences at the University of Padova, Italy in 2016. Currently, she is working as a postdoctoral research fellow within a Horizon 2020 EU project at the University of Padova and is closely collaborating with the Polytechnique Montréal in Canada.
