Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Early Career Scientists / 2020 / Weian Chao
As a result of this successful work, a significant step forward has been made in the effectiveness with which Taiwan can monitor its major mass-wasting activities and act in time to mitigate their damage. This is more impressive than the yet also impressive number of papers Chao has published in his brief professional career.

He also demonstrated how reactive chemical tracers mix and accumulate in the lower mantle due to the interaction of deep mantle convection with the transition zone, thereby addressing fundamental difficulties in our understanding of the long-term chemical evolution of the Earth.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2016 / Insa Thiele-Eich
Clemens Simmer at the Meteorological Institute at the University of Bonn in Germany, where she is now the scientific coordinator of the Collaborative Research Centre TR32: Patterns in Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere Systems.
Home / Awards & medals / Vilhelm Bjerknes Medal / 2024 / Lucy Carpenter
She is a (co-)author of seminal articles on halogen chemistry in the marine boundary layer, in particular involving reactive iodine and bromine compounds and their role in oxidation processes and ozone photochemistry. These compounds also play an important role in new particle formation.

The result showed changes in the cycles of the plankton, upwelling winds, and Saharan dust records from 2003 to 2020. These changes were divided into three phases, coinciding with changes in the plankton assemblage. Our results showed that local climate change can influence the dynamics and composition of marine ecosystems.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Awards / 2024 / Rui Guo
His awarded presentation at EGU 2024 focused on (i) reconstruct the streamflow of rivers originated from European Alps in past nine centuries, (ii) evaluate the ability of GCMs and reconstructions in simulating the statistics of observed long-term streamflow by focusing on multiyear hydrological droughts and (iii) to infer how streamflow and drought risk was like in the past and how will it change in the future.
Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Young Scientists / 2013 / Simon M. Mudd
His work is notable for a quantitative, process-based approach that is rooted in the mechanics of geomorphic processes. He has played a leading role in exploring frontier topics such as the role of vegetation in the evolution of diverse geomorphic systems. In particular, his work on the coupling of chemical weathering and physical transport processes on slopes opens up a new and very important area of research in landscape dynamics.
