Chair: Rafael Pimentel Remotely sensed data can support the monitoring of a wide range of components of the water cycle from local to global scale. Applications include water in the upper soil, at the surface, within the biosphere and atmosphere as well as capturing processes and interactions at the soil-atmosphere interface.

Home / About / Subdivisions / Catchment hydrology
Water resources quantification in different climate and world regions (including e.g. arid regions, mountain hydrology) Given the scope of all other subdivisions, a session on large scale hydrology is traditionally also hosted by the Catchment Hydrology SD. Special sessions pertaining to the above topics with pronounced cross-disciplinarity might also be run in selected years in the General Hydrology SD.

European Geophysical Society Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky was an Ukranian-Russian scientist (1863-1945) whose expertise was remarkably diverse: he studied in the fields of geochemistry, mineralogy, biogeochemistry and cristallography. He was also a distinguished naturalist and philosopher. He founded and became director of the Biogeochemical Laboratory of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1928. Although he did not introduce himself the concept of the term biosphere, coined by E.
