His research activity is focused on kinetic theory and test-particle simulations. He is investigating at present the mechanisms responsible for the formation of anisotropic velocity distribution functions as those observed experimentally in the terrestrial magnetosphere, particularly in the tail, close to the plasma sheet. He studied the velocity distribution functions of electron and proton clouds moving in the magnetic field of a tangential discontinuity and found interesting consequences due to finite Larmor radius effects.

I am currently using A HYbrid Coordinate Ocean general circulation Model (HYCOM) to determine the subduction, ventilation and re-emerence into the mixed layer of the SAMW in the global ocean, as well as their sensitivity to perturbations in mixing parameters. The result shows the relative importance of different driving mechanisms and the importance of SAMW’s control in the global nutrient supply.

He has evaluated the origin and the impact of the weakening of the thermohaline circulation under global warming in terms of ocean dynamics, climatic response and oceanic biogeochemical consequences.
Home / Awards & medals / Augustus Love Medal / 2016 / Jason P. Morgan
In a series of publications, Phipps Morgan explored the links between hotspot swells, plume melting and the formation of a plume-fed asthenosphere feeding the mid-ocean ridge systems.

GeoCinema sessions will take place in room E1 at the Austria Center Vienna (ACV) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday of the conference week, between 18:00 and 20:00 CEST. The room is equipped with a hybrid set-up, allowing us to live-stream the film to the virtual audience in addition to those on-site in Vienna.

I am in the fourth year of my PhD and my project focusses on measurements of volcanic gas emissions, using optical remote sensing techniques based on the absorption of ultraviolet (UV) solar radiation due to gases in the emission plumes. Active volcanoes emit large amounts of gases.
