Home / Awards & medals / Augustus Love Medal / 2026 / Saskia Goes
This integrated approach, very much in the spirit of Augustus Love, has enabled her to address some of the most fundamental and complex questions in Earth science: What controls plate motions? Why do slabs stagnate or sink? How do mantle processes shape surface tectonics, volcanism, and seismic hazards?
Home / About / Subdivisions / Erosion, sedimentation & river processes
We also cover research on sediment and associated contaminant sources, transport, transformations and re-mobilisation in river systems, catchments and lakes. The subdivision is cross-disciplinary and spans other areas of hydrology as well as geomorphology, soil system sciences and biogeosciences. ESRP is differentiated from other areas by our core focus on the interaction of hydrological and sediment delivery processes, related methods and their applications to address important challenges in the management of land and water resources.
Home / Policy / EGU Early Career Scientist (ECS) Policy Competition
The opportunities didn’t end that evening, though; as a direct result of this event, my network of contacts has grown, and to my delight, I have since received job offers as well as invitations to other events and activities. Taking part in EGU’s Policy Competition has had a positive impact on my career, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to any ECS with an interest in expanding their network outside of science and getting more involved in policy.
Home / News / EGU news / Applications open for EGU Public Engagement Grants 2020
15 November 2019 The European Geosciences Union ( EGU ) is opening applications to EGU Public Engagement Grants, which aim to celebrate and recognise excellent science communication in the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The grants, an initiative of the EGU Outreach Committee, are awarded to EGU members interested in developing an outreach project to raise awareness of geosciences outside the scientific community.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2015 / Yao Fu
Generally, I am interested in large-scale ocean circulations and their role in the climate, as well as tropical ocean dynamics. The poster presents an estimation of Ekman transport and the vertical structure of the ageostrophic velocity in the tropical Atlantic from observations.
Home / Awards & medals / Division Outstanding Young Scientist Awards / 2014 / Fubao Sun
Fubao Sun is truly an emerging talent in the field of geosciences.
Home / Education / Educational resources / Modelling the effects of climate change on complex ocean currents
The changing climate, in particular the melting of sea ice and glaciers at high latitudes, threatens to change these currents – which would have significant impacts on oceans and society. At the University of Alberta in Canada, Professor Paul Myers is using powerful numerical models to study these currents and predict how climate change will affect them.
