The EGU Working Group on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion ( EDI ) promotes and supports equality, diversity and inclusion of opportunities in the Earth, planetary and space sciences, with a focus on EGU activities. The group also works closely with the EGU Council and Outreach Committee as well as representatives from sister organisations to raise awareness of the value of EDI within the scientific community.

Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Young Scientists / 2011 / Boris J.P. Kaus
His recent work on the rheology of partially molten aggregates helps to explain laboratory findings that were previously mysterious. What is impressive about Boris Kaus’ approach is the thorough and systematic nature of his studies and the way that he combines state of the art numerical simulation (often advancing the state of the art) using complex visco-elasto-plastic rheologies with simplified mathematical analyses in order to really understand why and how things happen.
Home / Awards & medals / Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards / 2021 / Mark J. Hoggard
It is not surprising, given the crucial importance of these metals for sustainable development and efforts to transition to clean- energy technologies, that the work has also received widespread and international media interest. Hoggard’s encyclopedic knowledge and deep understanding of the fields of geology, geochemistry, and geophysics allow him to leverage a multitude of observations and combine them in highly novel ways to probe Earth’s interior.
Home / News / EGU news / Mixed media sculptor and illustrator chosen as artists in residence for the EGU25 General Assembly
At the General Assembly she will be using recycled posters left behind, or donated, after the poster sessions to create physical representations of ‘clouds’, which will capture the transient nature of research ideas, how they evolve, merge, stand alone, and sometimes dissipate, much like clouds in the sky. “I am deeply honored to be selected as an Artist in Residence for EGU25, where I can merge my passions for science and art in a meaningful way.”

Home / Outreach / Newsletter / GeoQ #10
It not only had a series of new features associated with The Face of the Earth topic, but it was also the biggest EGU conference to date, with close to 12,500 participants and over 15,000 presentations. In this edition of GeoQ, we reflect on a busy and exciting time in Vienna, highlighting research presented at the conference as well as other special features of the meeting.

He completed a habilitation at the University of Frankfurt on the structure of the Earth’s crust in 1966 and, during a stint as a visiting professor at the University of Hawai’i, worked on seismic data gathered by the first Apollo missions to the Moon. From 1971 to 1995, Meissner was the head of the Institute of Geophysics (now the Institute of Geosciences ) at the University of Kiel.

Tobias Keller GD Geodynamics The 2020 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award is awarded to Tobias Keller for outstanding scientific contributions related to understanding magma dynamics and igneous systems in the mantle and lithosphere, including the roles of volatiles and reactive flow. Tobias Keller conducts multidisciplinary frontier research on some of the most challenging problems concerning processes related to the generation, transport and emplacement of magmas using the tool of numerical modeling to advance our understanding.
