Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2012 / Gianbattista Bussi
The awarded poster presents the results of a preliminary implementation of the TETIS-SED model coupled with palaeohydrological techniques for the reconstruction of the hydological and sediment regime in a Mediterranean catchment with no sediment data available.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2017 / Ludovic Räss
.; Duretz, T.; Podladchikov, Y. Y.; Schmalholz, S. M.) Click here to download the poster/PICO file. Ludovic Räss is a PhD student at the Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Lausanne, in Lausanne Switzerland under the supervision of Prof. Yuri Podladchikov. With coworkers, he developed a set of Matlab routines to efficiently solve linear and power law Stokes flow in 2-D.
Home / Awards & medals / Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal / 2023 / Tom Battin
At the stream scale, Battin’s research on benthic biofilms and microbial communities demonstrated their critical role on the functioning of the fluvial ecosystems. At broader scales, his seminal papers have contextualised the role of freshwater fluxes in the carbon cycle, especially the importance of lateral transport in local and regional carbon budgets.

Home / Awards & medals / Angela Croome Award / 2026 / Joshua Howgego
Joshua Howgego combines rigorous scientific training, including a PhD in chemistry, with editorial insight to produce work that is both authoritative and accessible. In his recently published book, 'The Meteorite Hunters', he not only investigates the scientific enigmas posed by meteorites, from isotopic signatures and planetary migration, to the origin of water on Earth.

June The 13th Summer School on Sensitivity Analysis of Model Output (SAMO 2026) Fiesole (Florence), Italy 8–12 June 2026 SAMO 2026 covers how to perform sensitivity analysis in simulation modelling, as it has a crucial role in policy and policy-making. It provides an introduction to Global Sensitivity Analysis (GSA) — one of the most powerful tools for knowledge and understanding understanding complex models.
Home / Awards & medals / Virtual Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (vOSPP) Awards / 2021 / Sam Hartharn-Evans
Sam’s vPICO poster describes the results of work investigating the behaviour of these Internal Solitary Waves as they propagate upslope in different stratification regimes. Publication resulting from this award Hartharn-Evans, S. G., Stastna, M., and Carr, M.: A new approach to understanding fluid mixing in process-study models of stratified fluids, Nonlin.
