Using the predicted patterns can furthermore support skilful predictions of extreme precipitation up to 1-2 weeks ahead for most of the locations in the Mediterranean.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2015 / Sarah Beatty
She carries out laboratory and field-based experimental research to study dynamic soil water repellency and its expression during infiltration in post wildfire environments. The EGU 2015 poster presents a number of methodological approaches and analysis techniques to understand wetting behaviours in natural soils with varying levels of repellency. It also presents two conceptual models that integrate fractional wettability and contact angle dynamics at pore and cm scales.

He received a MSc degree in Applied Geophysics from the Joint Master program by Tu Delft, ETH Zurich and RWTH Aachen University in 2009. His current work focusses on non stationary time series analysis and its application to the Magnetotelluric (MT) method, which traditionally assumes stationarity of the source signal.

Included is a summary of a current research project, an interview with geologist Dr Ronadh Cox and a career guide for students interested in geology. The activity sheet includes discussion points – seven questions the students can answer in groups of individually –, and instructions on how to weigh objects that are too heavy to move.
