His research focuses on the lifecycle and processes of deep convective clouds, and in particular involves the use of storm tracking algorithms with geostationary satellite imagery to better understand deep convection across a wide range of scales. He is also a lead developer of the tobac open-source cloud tracking software.

His research concerns the representation of internal variability in models used for the attribution of climate change, with a focus on heatwaves. The work presented at EGU 2019 is part of research regarding simple climate models and carbon budgets that he carried out during his undergraduate masters in physics – collaborating with the Environmental Change Institute at the University of Oxford – and still spends a limited time on.

Giulia Realdon Education Field Officer "Italy" of the European Geosciences Union January 2019 – present Giulia Realdon studied Biology and Science Communication at University of Padua and has been teaching Natural Sciences for many years. After retiring, she earned a PhD in Earth Sciences Education at University of Camerino and works on education research within international groups.

His PhD project focuses on paleo-tsunami deposits within coastal lakes along the megathrust earthquake-prone south-central Chilean coast. In his poster at EGU2013 he presented preliminary results from a survey on the island of Chiloé in which he integrated sidescan sonar data, sub-bottom profiles and various sediment core analyses, e.g. x-radiography and magnetic susceptibility.
