This workshop is part of a three-part Autumn Sci-Comm series which will support Early Career Scientists (ECS) in developing their science communication skills. Organised by the EGU Early Career Scientist task force on outreach and communication, each online event will feature talks delivered by guest speakers from Luminate Media, a multimedia communications company specialising in science communication and digital experiences.
Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Early Career Scientists / 2025 / Mariana Madruga de Brito
She uses long-term monitoring of climate impacts on society through quantitative methods and natural language processing. She holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering from the University of Porto Alegre, Brazil, and completed her PhD at Bonn University, Germany, in 2018, specializing in participatory approaches for assessing flood vulnerabilities.
Home / Jobs / PhD Student, Multi species lidar data analysis
The fixed-term contract is based on § 2 WissZeitVG. Your Tasks: You will conduct research in the field of experimental atmospheric physics, with a focus on optical remote sensing of the atmosphere up to the edge of space (mesosphere and lower thermosphere, MLT). The advertised position is primarily linked to the study of different metal atoms in the MLT and their relation to the re-entry of space debris.
Home / Awards & medals / Alina Kabata-Pendias Medal / 2026 / Bettina Weber
With over 10,500 citations across more than a hundred peer-reviewed journal publications (quarter of them in very high-impact journals), Weber has made a significant impact on Earth and Soil System science. Weber has led research groups in Germany and Austria, and now leads the 'Functional Diversity and Ecology' group at Karl-Franzens University in Graz.
Home / Jobs / ESA Archival Research Visitor Programme
In principle, all areas of space research covered by ESA science missions can be supported. Residence lasts typically between one and three months, also distributed over multiple visits. Research projects can be carried out at ESAC (Madrid, Spain) and at ESTEC (Noordwijk, Netherlands).
Home / Awards & medals / Philippe Duchaufour Medal / 2026 / Cornelia Rumpel
Cornelia Rumpel has made transformative contributions to the field of soil science through her pioneering work on the dynamics of organic carbon in soils. Her research has illuminated the processes governing the composition, stabilization, and persistence of soil organic matter, particularly in subsoil environments that had long been overlooked.
Home / Awards & medals / Katia and Maurice Krafft Award / 2024 / Sinelethu Hashibi
Her groundbreaking PhD research focuses on creating innovative curriculum and teaching materials that make highly complex geoscience concepts and terminology more understandable and engaging for non-English speaking students in under-resourced schools across South Africa. Hashibi’s academic excellence and remarkable empathy shine through in her tireless efforts to reach diverse audiences far beyond the classroom. She has spearheaded multiple creative initiatives providing relatable STEM role models and inspiration to the next generation of women and people of colour, giving vital exposure to the promise of geoscience careers.
Home / Awards & medals / Alfred Wegener Medal & Honorary Membership / 2021 / Angela M. Gurnell
Gurnell has also carefully documented the feedbacks by which fluxes of water and sediment affect the location and structure of riparian vegetation while being simultaneously altered by the presence of the vegetation. As a pioneer in viewing riparian vegetation as an active shaper of river process and form, rather than simply passively responding to fluxes of material in river corridors, Gurnell has transformed our understanding of how rivers function.
Home / Jobs / Lecturer in Structural and Field Geology, 80-100%
The University of Fribourg is an equal opportunity employer and strives towards gender balance and diversity at all levels. Striving to increase the number of women in the faculty, the University of Fribourg therefore particularly encourages applications from qualified female scientists.
Home / Awards & medals / Hans Oeschger Medal / 2020 / Kim M. Cobb
Cobb is also a highly regarded teacher and mentor, in particular to women in science, and has guided an already long list of productive students and postdocs. She is the recipient of a number of prestigious awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by the US government to outstanding scientists and engineers who are beginning their independent research careers and who show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology.
