“There are many climate processes lying between the direct consequences of greenhouse-gas emissions and the regional ocean warming used as forcing in the modelling reported in The Cryosphere , many of which are poorly understood,” explains co-author Tony Payne, a professor at the University of Bristol.

His approach is original and powerful as it builds on direct observation of many aspects of convergent plate margins in regions such as Japan, Taiwan and South America. He has combined observations from marine geology and geophysics, often obtained in one of many oceanographic cruises he was involved in, with insights from analogue modelling.
Home / Awards & medals / Milutin Milanković Medal / 2020 / Valérie Masson-Delmotte
This has provided an improved understanding of the links between climate parameters and stable isotope records and has enabled the last centuries to be placed in the broader context of current and previous interglacial periods. In addition to her excellence in fundamental science, Masson-Delmotte has also been a prominent leader of the research community.

In pursuing this goal of using fully numerical wave field calculations in seismic imaging Tromp has shown visionary leadership, anticipating how petaflop capabilities could be harnessed when most of the seismological community was experimenting with the application of modest clusters.

We give special attention to topics cross-cutting with those of other divisions. We recognise deserving colleagues in various stages of their careers with our Award program: the division awards the Fritdjof Nansen Medal to mid or full career scientists and the Outstanding Early Career Scientists Award for researchers in the early stages of their careers.

Carl-Gunne Fälthammar The 1998 Hannes Alfvén Medal is awarded to Carl-Gunne Fälthammar in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the study of the dynamical processes in the Earth’s magnetosphere. The second recipient for 1998 of the Hannes Alfvén Medal is Carl-Gunne Fälthammar. Professor Fälthammar received his Master in Engineering in 1956 and his Teknologie Doktor in 1966 at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

Since the number of published papers was 45 (39 in 2014 and 6 in 2013), this gives an IF of 90/45=2.000, an excellent IF for such a young journal. We are grateful to all authors, reviewers and editors of EGU ’s open access journals for their invaluable help in increasing the impact of EGU publications and making them a success.

Her research focuses on the impact of CO 2 on the mechanical behaviour, damage characteristics and transport properties of reservoir rocks, caprocks and faults, in the framework of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), and is amongst the first to address the effects of chemical interactions on rock mechanical properties in this important field.
