Although this year’s General Assembly will be held online due to the pandemic, the EGU Public Lecture , which provides insight into a topic in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences of interest to a broad audience, will still take place in partnership with the Austrian Academy of Sciences . The EGU Public Lecture 2021 will be delivered in German by Günter Blöschl, Head of the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Engineering Hydrology at the Vienna University of Technology.

Two types of awards were advertised: a team and an individual award. Following the nomination and selection process, a panel of prominent Earth observation scientists reviewed the 40 nominations and judged the nominees according to the following categories: excellence in science, excellence in innovation, impact in the field of Earth observation, and potential for future Earth observation contributions.

Angelo Vulpiani has published over 200 peer reviewed papers and many text books. He is the recipient of the 2021 European Physical Society’s Statistical and Nonlinear Physics Prize and since 2004 he has been a fellow of the Institute of Physics. His legacy includes a key role in establishing a school of nonlinear physics and physical fluid dynamics in Italy.
