Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2018 / Sandra Vázquez-Martín
Thomas Kuhn from LTU and Dr. Salomon Eliasson from SMHI, Sweden. Her background is in Physics and in Astrophysics but she likes all branches of science. She has worked in the field of exoplanets, Mars exploration and also in polar stratospheric clouds on Earth. Her current research is focused in the microphysical properties of atmospheric snow particles (ice crystals and snowflakes) using ground-based insitu instruments.

Without specialist equipment, this dynamism is not easy to convey in a teaching laboratory setting. The result is that students of the geosciences do not always get experiential exposure to the timescales and materiality of magmatic processes; instead they are asked to take abstract imaginative steps in connecting observed petrographic textures in rocks with a complex sequence of physical processes that occur in nature.
Home / Education / Educational resources / Wetlands in a changing world: the climate benefits of wetlands
At McGill University in Canada, Dr Sara Knox is working to understand the impacts of human activities and climate change on carbon storage in wetlands. This brochure introduces Sara's work, offers an insight into careers in biogeochemistry, contains an interview with Sara and includes an activity sheet that challenges students to delve deeper into the importance of wetlands..
