Anton Köhler is a PhD student at the department of geosciences at University of Tübingen. His studies focus on modelling contaminant transport in groundwater using the analytic element method. The method, newly applied to contaminant transport aims at improving early site assessment and remediation strategies by providing an alternative to purely analytical or numerical modelling schemes.
At the EGU 2025 general assembly he presented the first application of the analytic element method for contaminant transport. The solution provides steady-state contaminant plumes formed in an electron donor-acceptor system in horizontal and vertical two-dimensional aquifers. The model can represent various complex setups of boundary conditions, while still providing an exact analytical solution within the domain.
