The 2025 Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Award is awarded to Shekhar Goyal for the poster/PICO entitled:
Towards Disentangling Environmental Costs of India's Agricultural Trade Network (Goyal, S. S.; Dave, R.; Bhatia, U.; Kumar, R.)

Shekhar Sharan Goyal was a PhD candidate in the Earth Sciences Department at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar at the time of his EGU presentation; he is now a postdoctoral researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. His work focuses on sustainable nitrogen management across the water–food–environment nexus, with an emphasis on trade-system modelling and geospatial optimisation.
In his EGU25 poster, Shekhar integrates district-level agricultural data with India’s interstate railway trade flows (2009–2020) to quantify how rice and wheat trade redistributes nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) surpluses and associated gray-water burdens, and to test an optimization for nitrogen-focused cropland reallocation.
