EGU Election Autumn 2021

The EGU Election Autumn 2021 for the next Union President, General Secretary and Division Presidents was closed on 30 November 2021. We would like to thank each of the candidates for their initiative in standing for the election. We also sincerely thank all those EGU members who used their voting right. Active participation in elections ensures continuation of the well-established bottom-up structure of our Union!

In total, 1614 EGU members voted in this election. Please see the results below.

Irina M. Artemieva was elected to serve as EGU President for the term 2023–2025. Irina M. Artemieva will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting on 24 May 2022 in Vienna, Austria, serving first as the EGU Vice-President (President-Elect) for one year. The elected candidate will then serve as EGU President for two years (2023–2025) and finally as Vice-President (Past-President) for the fourth year. Note that the terms start and end at the Plenary which is held during the General Assembly.

Jane K. Hart was elected as the EGU General Secretary for the term 2022–2024. Jane K. Hart will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting on 24 May 2022 in Vienna, Austria.

EGU Division Presidents 2023–2025

All elected candidates will serve as Division Presidents for the term 2023–2025. First-time elected Division Presidents (i.e., candidates who are not serving as Division Presidents at the time of the election) will be inaugurated during the EGU plenary meeting on 24 May 2022 in Vienna, Austria, and serve for one year as Deputy Presidents after their inauguration. They will then serve for a two-year term starting from the 2023 EGU plenary meeting and may stand for re-election for a further two years.
