EGU26 – by the numbers

The statistics from EGU26 highlight how engaged our members and participants are in connecting with people around the world to discuss and debate the latest geoscience research results.
By the numbers, the week of EGU26 included:
- 1014 scientific sessions
- 22,497 individuals registered, with 20,027 joining us in Vienna from 125 countries, and 2,470 joining virtually from 107 countries
- 364 recipients of support waivers (including the Roland Schlich Travel Support grant) attended the meeting, and an additional 1,533 virtual registration waivers were issued, of which 839 were undergraduate and masters student waivers
- 20,173 presentations, given in poster, oral and PICO presentation formats, both on-site and virtually, 58% of which were contributions from Early Career Scientists (ECS)
- 115 teachers who joined the Geoscience Information For Teachers (GIFT) workshop both on-site and virtually
- 62 Short Courses with 1 special Artist in Residence workshop
- 38 Award and Medal Lectures
- 16 Union Symposia and Great Debates
- 22 Townhalls
Even though EGU26 is over, much of the scientific information from this year’s General Assembly is still available online. As with previous years, all supplementary materials uploaded with open access permission will be available on EGUsphere.
From 1 June 2026 all the recorded Union Symposia, Great Debates and Union Medal and Award Lectures will become free to watch without registration on the EGU26 on-demand recordings page, so that people from around the world can access these keynote livestreamed events, for free at any time.
