EGU’s Policy Pairing scheme 2026 – apply now to experience life inside the European Parliament!

14 July 2026

Each year, the EGU, in collaboration with the MEP Group on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development provides an EGU member with the opportunity to visit Brussels and work alongside a Member of the European Parliament for up to a week. This Science-Policy Pairing Scheme helps to promote a culture of evidence-informed policymaking and encourage stronger science-policy partnerships. It enables the selected EGU member to experience the daily work of an MEP, learn more about the role of science in policymaking, and potentially provide expertise on a science-policy issue.

We are pleased to announce that this year’s pairing will be with MEP Dimitris Tsiodras.

Dimitris Tsiodras is a Greek Member of the European Parliament (MEP), representing the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats). He is a member of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety and Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, and a substitute member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. Tsiodras is also Co-Chair of the MEP Group on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development

The successful applicant will join Mr Tsiodras and his team in Brussels and may be asked to participate in various aspects of policymaking, which may include:

  • Receiving an introduction to the work of the European Parliament from the MEP or their assistants;
  • Sharing research and scientific expertise where relevant;
  • Joining committee meetings, conferences and policy  events that involve European Parliament staff (depending on scheduling and meeting sensitivity).
  • Assisting the office in reviewing scientific and technical contributions submitted through Commission public consultations and stakeholder engagement processes, helping to interpret specialised terminology and identify policy-relevant findings that can support informed parliamentary decision-making.

The Pairing Scheme will take place from 3-6 November 2026 and it is open to all EGU members who are EU citizens or EU residents. Researchers working on water scarcity and resilience, circular economy and pollution, and safe and sustainable chemicals, areas of current interest to MEP Tsiodras and his team, are particularly encouraged to apply.

As a part of the Pairing Scheme, EGU will cover the scientist’s economy travel and accommodation expenses. To apply, please fill in the application form, attaching a CV (max 2-page) and a cover letter outlining your motivation for participating in the Pairing Scheme, by midnight on Tuesday 1 September 2026. Please note that only complete applications in English can be accepted.
