Main tasks:

• Operating and further developing a wide range of self-hosted services for our staff and the members of the Union: collaboration, communication and mail infrastructure (e.g. Nextcloud, Mattermost, Jitsi, Mailman) as well as the underlying databases, monitoring and backup systems
• Administration and further development of the server infrastructure behind these services (roughly 45 servers)
• Administration of our office infrastructure in Munich: network, storage, backup and user devices
• Developing and maintaining our in-house applications and websites (Python/Django, JavaScript, WordPress) and their PostgreSQL/MariaDB databases
• First- and second-level support for our colleagues in the Executive Office
• Documentation of systems and processes

You will have real ownership of what you work on. We expect you to identify what needs improving, propose solutions and implement them on your own initiative, with the goal of building systems that are robust, well-documented and maintainable in the long term.

Essential requirements:

• Solid experience administering Linux servers
• Programming experience in Python
• A working understanding of networks, relational databases and backup strategies
• The ability to work independently, without close supervision
• The curiosity to grow into unfamiliar parts of the stack
• The ability to communicate clearly, with technical and non-technical colleagues alike
• Strong command of German and English (spoken and written)
• A completed IT apprenticeship or degree, or equivalent practical experience; career changers are welcome

Desired, but not essential:

• Django, PostgreSQL, Ansible or comparable automation tooling
• Experience with monitoring, firewalls, security hardening and mail infrastructure
• PHP/WordPress, Windows client administration
• An interest in self-hosting and open-source software; contributions to open-source projects are a plus

Salary, work package and starting date:

This position, to start as soon as possible, is based in Munich, Germany and will be subject to a 6-month probation period. Indicative remuneration for the role will be in the range of €50,000 to €60,000 (annual gross) subject to expertise and experience, and includes an annual wage adjustment based on inflation. In addition, the role provides:
