Home / Awards & medals / Augustus Love Medal / 2017 / Barry E. Parsons
One of his papers on this topic, published in the Journal of Geophysical Research in 1982, is truly a classic and has spawned many others. He analysed in a supremely elegant and useful way the relationships between topography, gravity and temperature structure in convective bodies and followed this up with several studies of convection on Earth and Venus.

Products could include text (such as a feature article in print or electronic media, or a book), multimedia or photo features, and may be published in any European language. The winning project(s) should be completed within 12 months of the date of the award. This deadline can be extended in cases beyond the control of the fellow, such as when a scientific field trip is postponed.

This is a part of funding led by the research group of Prof. Robert Shcherbakov (publish.uwo.ca/~rshcherb/) in the Department of Earth Sciences, at Western University (https://uwo.ca/earth/), London, Ontario, Canada in collaboration with industry partners.
Home / Awards & medals / Louis Néel Medal / 2026 / François Renard
He is a pioneer in the application of laser scanning technology (LiDAR) to quantify fault surface roughness, both in laboratory experiments and natural field settings. In recent years, Renard has led cutting-edge research using X-ray microtomography to investigate the evolution of microscale damage in rocks subjected to brittle deformation.

He is also an advocate for open and inclusive science, spanning the full range from data to publications to recognition of scientific achievements. Katy Chamberlain is a lecturer at the University of Derby (United Kingdom). She is an igneous petrologist and field volcanologist specialising in the use of in situ microanalytical techniques. Katy is also passionate about changing the data culture in geochemistry and making geochemical data FAIR.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Young Scientist Awards / 2008 / Maud Boyet
Maud’s discovery, and her discussion of the significance of the result in her papers published in Science and EPSL, highlight the ever increasing evidence that events occurring shortly after planet formation have a lasting, if not dominant, effect on the geochemical and geodynamic evolution of the terrestrial planets.
Home / Awards & medals / Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal / 2025 / Corinne Le Quéré
Corinne Le Quéré The 2025 Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal is awarded to Corinne Le Quéré for development of research demonstrating the role of the oceans in the changing global carbon cycle, and leadership in the Global Carbon Project. As a world-renowned expert on the changing global carbon cycle, Corinne Le Quéré is well deserving of the 2024 Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal.

European Geophysical Society Fridtjof Nansen Fridtjof Nansen's first major contribution to oceanography was the transpolar expedition made by freezing vessel "Fram" in the Arctic drift ice north of the New Siberian Islands in 1893. He made several improvements in measuring techniques (for both physical and biological parameters) and in our understanding of ocean processes.

Read more The role of cyclonic eddies in the detachment and separation of Loop Current eddies Ocean Science DOI 10.5194/os-22-821-2026 10 March 2026 We analyze 29 years of satellite altimetry to investigate the detachment of Loop Current Eddies in the Gulf of Mexico. Over half of the Loop Current eddies reattach within a month, while 42 % separate and drift westward.
