She has a BSc in Mathematics and Physics and a MSc in Atomic and nuclear methods in the study of environment. Her PhD project focuses on the application of fallout radionuclides in soil erosion and sedimentation studies and it is conducted under the guidance of Prof. Constantin Cosma.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2018 / Simon Warnach
In the research group for satellite remote sensing he studies the variability of volcanic plume compositions under supervision of Prof. Thomas Wagner. The focus of Simon Warnach is the retrieval of bromine monoxide (BrO) and Sulphur dioxide (SO2) in volcanic plumes from spectra of backscattered solar radiation observed from novel satellite instruments.

In the present context, however, we emphasise his contributions to the study of nonlinear systems and processes in hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics. This work goes back to his early research as part of his PhD thesis in Cambridge in the early 1950s on the rotating, differentially-heated fluid annulus.
