His work also includes contributions to ice-core interpretation and palaeoclimate studies, our understanding of climate in relation to glacier surging, as well as snow and sea-ice sciences. Significant contributions include the interpretation of radar returns with the help of ice cores, the identification of radio-echo free zones, a careful analysis of the effects of anisotropy on radar signals and the development of a mathematically robust solution to untangle the effect of ice flow on accumulation history recorded in radar-detectable layers.

The conference will provide a platform for policymakers and scholars to discuss the role of academic freedom in democracy, the policies and initiatives that recognise and support this relationship, and the trends observed in the state of both democracy and academic freedom. The conference will take place in the House of European History, European Parliament, Brussels on 14:00 CET 4 March 2026 .

Giorgia Stasi, who is also a PhD candidate in Applied Geophysics at the University of Liège and a geologist at the Institute of Natural Sciences in Belgium, in the Geological Survey department, is the first EGU member and volunteer to serve as an Early Career Scientist Representative , and then be elected to be a Division President, whist still in their Early Career stage.

The EGU Election Autumn 2018 for the next Treasurer was closed on 30 November 2018. We would like to thank each of the candidates for their initiative in standing for the election. We also sincerely thank all those EGU members who used their voting right. Active participation in elections ensures continuation of the well-established bottom-up structure of our Union! In total, 1670 EGU members voted in this election.

Tomonori finished his PhD research on the subject of evapotranspiration in evergreen tropical forests in southeast Asia using sap flow measurements. He now is a Post-Doc at Kasuya Research Forest of Kyushu University, Japan. His main research interest is on the impacts of forest management on water and carbon cycling in various types of forest ecosystem.

She works at the Geological Survey of Belgium ( RBINS ) with a focus on critical raw material and technology development, and she is currently enrolled in a PhD program in Applied Geophysics at the University of Liège, Belgium. Her research focuses on the development of geophysical techniques for deep mining and robotic autonomous exploration.
