Veerle Vanacker GM Geomorphology The 2012 Division Outstanding Young Scientist Award is awarded to Veerle Vanacker for her novel approach to distinguish between natural benchmark and accelerated erosion rates in mountain environments under pressure of land use change. Veerle Vanacker’s research focuses on the impact of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on erosion and sediment transfer in mountain regions.
Home / Awards & medals / Louis Néel Medal / 2007 / Friedrich Heller
The 1995 review paper in Reviews of Geophysics by Heller and Evans is now a classic that has drawn all of this important work together and that serves as a springboard for ongoing work. Friedrich Heller has also done important work on geomagnetic field intensity and its relationship with cosmogenic radionuclide production, as well as on the use of magnetic properties for assessing industrial pollution in soils.

He has also made substantial contributions to the analysis of high-resolution climate change in speleothems and an innovative analysis of mechanisms for propagation and translation of interannual climate variability in the tropics into decadal-scale variability at higher latitudes.

You will obtain the ability to find innovative solutions to complex problems in the field of atmospheric sciences, with its main challenge of climate change. In the University of Helsinki, your major subject will be physics or meteorology. The ABS programme offers excellent opportunities for PhD studies. Go back

Her research investigated the sedimentology of early vegetated environments in the Devonian, under the supervision of Dr. Martin Gibling. In her EGU 2011 poster, a facies analysis of a fossil-rich locality was used to provide a paleoenvironmental context for the plants, vertebrates and invertebrates occupying the ecosystem.
