Home / Media Library / Eddy salinity, dimensions and dead-zone schematic
This plot shows a salinity section of the upper 350 metres of sea water observed across an eddy passing through the Cape Verde Ocean Observatory mooring. As the water in the eddy originates from the African Coast it is much lower in salinity than the surrounding water.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2012 / Tzu-Ying Huang
Her poster in EGU2012 presented results of a preliminary work in Taiwan on the use of seismic ambient noises to understand the distribution of seismic anisotropy at different depths and the contribution of potential causes.

More information The European Geosciences Union ( EGU ) is Europe’s premier geosciences union, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Earth, planetary, and space sciences for the benefit of humanity, worldwide. It is a non-profit interdisciplinary learned association of scientists founded in 2002 with headquarters in Munich, Germany.

Since fish monitoring was always a time and cost intensive work, the project aims at developing a new monitoring system that reduces the need for manual work by automating as much of the monitoring as possible. At the same time this new approach reduces the stress imposed on the fish during the monitoring. In the poster, he presented the overall structure of the program as well of some of the key features. Since the system is already in use in several fish ladders across Austria, example videos were shown during the poster presentation.
Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Early Career Scientists / 2024 / Nadia Bloemendaal
She received second place in the Lloyd’s Science of Risk Prize in 2021 and also makes strong societal impact; since her PhD she has been working on a project related to tropical cyclones and insurance at Columbia University. Bloemendaal is a true advocate for ‘FAIR’ data. Her datasets and model code are publicly available, and she received the national Dutch Data Prize in 2020.

Dr. Werner Borken. His research focuses on the effects of climate warming on tree fine root dynamics and soil organic carbon turnover in a temperate mountain forest. His work is part of the Achenkirch soil warming experiment in the Austrian Alps, which combine the expertise of researchers from the Federal Research and Training Centre for Forests, Natural Hazards and Landscape (BFW), the University of Vienna (TER Labs), the University of Bochum and the University of Bayreuth.
