Click here to download the poster/PICO file. Alexandra Kushnir is a PhD candidate at l’Institut des Sciences de la Terre d’Orléans (ISTO) in Orléans, France. She is a volcanologist studying the development of permeable gas networks in deforming two- and three-phase rhyolitic magmas. In particular, her research focuses on the in-situ measurement of permeability at conduit pressures and magmatic temperatures during deformation.
Home / Awards & medals / Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards / 2017 / Elmer Ruigrok
His work has resulted in an impressive number of journal papers on a variety of applications, like basin delineation using microseisms, imaging the Moho below the Himalayas and Tibet, high-resolution lithospheric imaging, and scanning for velocity anomalies in the crust and mantle using diffractions from the core-mantle boundary.

Jeffrey ST Solar-Terrestrial Sciences The 2018 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Award is awarded to Natasha L. S. Jeffrey for her outstanding achievements in improving the standard model of fast electrons produced in solar flares, thereby eliminating the long-standing low-energy cut-off uncertainty. X-ray observations are a direct diagnostic of fast electrons produced in solar flares, energised during the energy release process and directed towards the Sun.

Although Western scientists have historically deemed such information unreliable, during the past decade there has been increasing recognition of the advantages of bicultural approaches to scientific research, including demonstration of reliability. Now a review published in the European Geosciences Union’s journal Earth Surface Dynamics offers a roadmap for weaving together Indigenous knowledge with modern research, with a focus on the geosciences.
