Her research focuses on soil organic matter accumulation dynamics during ecosystem development after a major disturbance such as mining or landslides. The awarded poster presents the first study of a chronosequence of landslides that provides insight into soil development in Central Europe in the last 13,000 years. This chronosequence is unique by the combination of its large time-scale, sedimentary bedrock and temperate climate.

His research activity is focused on kinetic theory and test-particle simulations. He is investigating at present the mechanisms responsible for the formation of anisotropic velocity distribution functions as those observed experimentally in the terrestrial magnetosphere, particularly in the tail, close to the plasma sheet. He studied the velocity distribution functions of electron and proton clouds moving in the magnetic field of a tangential discontinuity and found interesting consequences due to finite Larmor radius effects.

I am currently using A HYbrid Coordinate Ocean general circulation Model (HYCOM) to determine the subduction, ventilation and re-emerence into the mixed layer of the SAMW in the global ocean, as well as their sensitivity to perturbations in mixing parameters. The result shows the relative importance of different driving mechanisms and the importance of SAMW’s control in the global nutrient supply.

From daily rainfall totals time series with an hourly resolution are generated as input for rainfall-runoff modeling. Although different variants for the implementation of spatial consistence in the generated high-resolution time series result in clear differences in the spatial rainfall behavior, the effect on simulated discharge time series regarding several flow statistics is almost not identifiable and hence questionable. The investigations are carried out for several catchments in Lower Saxony, Germany.
