Home / Awards & medals / Philippe Duchaufour Medal / 2024 / Jan Willem van Groenigen
He has conducted pioneering studies on the role of earthworms in soil quality and he has been a leader in communicating his research to laypersons. Jan Willem van Groenigen’s nomination and supporting letters from leading scientists, reflect his stellar contribution.
Home / Awards & medals / Augustus Love Medal / 2016 / Jason P. Morgan
In a series of publications, Phipps Morgan explored the links between hotspot swells, plume melting and the formation of a plume-fed asthenosphere feeding the mid-ocean ridge systems.
Home / Meetings / Conference series / Ada Lovelace Workshops on Modelling Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics
The workshops, previously known as International Workshops on Mantle and Lithosphere Dynamics, were renamed in 2018 by the EGU Topical Events Committee in honour of the 19th century English mathematician Ada Lovelace.

Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Awards / 2025 / Lison Soussaintjean
Her research focuses on reconstructing past atmospheric N 2 O concentrations from polar ice cores and using isotope analyses to understand past changes in N 2 O sources. A key challenge is understanding the production of excess N 2 O in dust-rich Antarctic ice (referred to as “in situ N 2 O”) that masks the atmospheric signal recorded in ice cores. At EGU, she presented new N 2 O isotope analyses showing that this in situ N 2 O is “hybrid”: one nitrogen atom comes from nitrate (NO 3 - ), while the other originates from an unknown nitrogen source.
Home / Awards & medals / Lewis Fry Richardson Medal / 2022 / Ulrike Feudel
Both the breadth of her work – spanning geoscience and ecology – as well as its depth – from fundamentals to applications have been qualified as “staggering”. Ulrike Feudel has been involved in the Nonlinear Processes division for several decades and has been an editor of the NP journal since 2004.
Home / News / EGU news / Mixed media sculptor and illustrator chosen as artists in residence for the EGU25 General Assembly
At the General Assembly she will be using recycled posters left behind, or donated, after the poster sessions to create physical representations of ‘clouds’, which will capture the transient nature of research ideas, how they evolve, merge, stand alone, and sometimes dissipate, much like clouds in the sky. “I am deeply honored to be selected as an Artist in Residence for EGU25, where I can merge my passions for science and art in a meaningful way.”
