At the EGU 2022 she presented results of her research on the influence of subsurface tropical instability waves (subTIWs) on ocean temperatures in the tropical Atlantic Ocean. She showed that subTIWs can induce vertical mixing which leads to a temperature increase below the mixed layer.

He is co-supervised by Bettina Schaefli (University of Bern, CH) and Stuart Lane (University of Lausanne, CH). During his PhD, he spent most of his summers camping in the forefield of the Otemma glacier, collecting various datasets such a geophysical surveys, groundwater well observations, water isotopes and geochemistry or stream discharge among others.

In the international graduate school StRATEGy (Surface Processes, Tectonics and Georesources: The Andean foreland basin of Argentina), he highlighted 2 new mechanisms associated with plate interaction at the convergent margin: (i) trench hindrance associated with slab steepening, which he presented at the EGU, and (2) crustal contraction and transpression of continental crust associated with the arrival of a flat slab (e.g. the Pampean and Laramide flat slab).

Rhian H. Meara The 2020 Katia and Maurice Krafft Award is awarded to Rhian H. Meara for her significant contributions to the dissemination of geography and Earth and environmental science topics to people with disabilities. Rhian H. Meara is the recipient of the EGU Katia and Maurice Krafft Award for pioneering contributions in the development of geographical and geological terminology in British Sign Language (BSL) for disabled students.

Combining the wave observation and coincident plasma measurements, Yue has revealed several intrinsic features about the whistler waves and EMIC waves which provide important insights for studying the excitation mechanism of plasma waves. In her brief professional career, she has a total of 27 first-authored/corresponding authored and 43 co-authored peer reviewed papers. In addition, Chao Yue has dedicated a lot of efforts to serve the space science community.

Bichler will continue to assist Spyraki and her team on a part-time basis in the coming weeks. Although in previous years the EGU’s science-policy pairing scheme has been limited to one week when it takes place in person, the virtual nature of this year’s experience means that the pairing, its related activities, and its duration are more flexible.
