Home / Jobs / Postdoc: AI for Climate Downscaling over Antarctica @ KU Leuven
In this pursuit, we actively participate in the development of methodologies aimed at facilitating the generation of digital twins of the Earth. Our technological endeavors converge at the interface of multi-source satellite imagery, diverse models (e.g., climate, vegetation, ice sheets), and machine learning.

During her PhD, she has investigated: (i) the role of tides in driving intermittent, intense turbulent mixing (exchange) between water-masses and overturning cells in the Southern Ocean where they can influence upwelling rates and the strength of the global overturning circulation; (ii) eddy-tide interactions that allow heat dispersion over the Western Antarctic Peninsula’s continental shelf where marine glacier melt is sensitive to ocean heat content; (iii) The relative roles of (1) local seasonal sea-ice production and (2) dense Weddell Sea water pathways across the South Scotia Ridge in bringing dense waters into contact with warmer water masses (CDW) over the continental slope along the Antarctic Peninsula.

The EGU General Assembly is a large event both in size and in the number of disciplines represented. Aside from science, the meeting also features a number of sessions that highlight non-scientific skills and information that may be of interest to General Assembly participants, from policy to diversity and equality.

Based on this model, both soil moisture drought and compound flooding (CF) were studied. CF is an extreme event taking place in low-lying coastal areas as a result of co-occurring high sea level and large amounts of runoff, caused by precipitation. In the poster, the CF probability along the European coasts both for present and future climate is estimated according to the business-as-usual (RCP8.5) scenario.
