Home / Awards & medals / Young Scientist Outstanding Poster Paper (YSOPP) Awards / 2006 / Jérôme Bouffard
Click here to download the poster/PICO file. Jérôme is 25 years old and is currently a Phd student in his 2nd year at LEGOS, Toulouse. His research topics are strongly related to the processing of improved coastal multi-satellite altimetric data and the upgrade of dedicated instrumental and environmental corrections in order to better capture physical coastal processes in the North Western Mediterranean sea.

Many EGU scientists have expert experience in the development of Earth observation techniques, which have a wide range of applications, such as improving computer models (environmental, climate, agriculture, ocean, disaster risk, etc.) and the analysis of resulting data.
Home / Policy / EGU science-policy pairing scheme
The scheme offers selected Europe-based EGU members the opportunity to gain insights into the policymaking process and the types of information policymakers need while at the same time providing policymakers with access to scientific expertise. As part of the scheme, selected EGU members will visit Brussels and work alongside a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) who has volunteered to participate in this scheme.

Work in that period has involved developments in pure mathematics, new experimental techniques, and the use of digital computers. The problems addressed include hydrodynamical turbulence, meteorology, chemical kinetics, and the astronomy of the solar system. These problems can be handled with precision.

Led by Professor Mariana Rufino at Lancaster University, UK, an international team of researchers, including Dr Joseph Hitimana at the University of Kabianga in Kenya, is working with Kenyan farmers to find solutions to this problem. The ReDEAL project is utilising a community-focused, bottom-up approach to help provide Kenyan farmers with the tools and knowledge to restore their soils.

A team of European researchers recently looked at what reducing sunlight reaching the Earth might do. They found that reducing the amount of sunlight would also reduce the amount of rain that falls in the north of Europe, America, and Asia by a large amount: 15%, or about 100 millimetres of rain per year!

Consequently, a greater understanding of our oceans through the use of measurements improves the simulated processes in ocean models.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2017 / Costanza Rodda
My poster shows the work done within the DFG founded research project “Multiscale Dynamics of Gravity Waves” (MSGWaves), in which a direct comparison between numerical simulations (performed at the Goethe University in Frankfurt) and the laboratory experiment is presented. Both data show gravity wave packets generated in the jet exit region.
