The focus of his thesis was on glacier mass loss in the Swiss Alps over the last century and on models for calculating impacts of future glacier retreat. He compiled a comprehensive field data base of glacier changes, analyzed them with mass balance models and explained long-term glacier variations with large-scale climatic forcings.

Her research explores the surface expressions of mantle convection. During her PhD, she developed a novel digital approach to map the continental-scale distribution of sediments to observe and track topographic changes driven by mantle convection (dynamic topography). This work resulted in the global continental hiatus maps, spanning from the present to the Upper Jurassic.
