Home / Awards & medals / Young Scientist Outstanding Poster Paper (YSOPP) Awards / 2008 / Martijn Westhoff
He uses Distributed continuous distributed temperature observations as a tracer to address these objectives. The researchmpresented at the EGU 2008 focuses on the interpretation of temporal temperature fluctuations of lateral inflows in a first order stream.

They will study a very urgent theme, not just globally but also locally, given the ever-increasing number of heatwaves and droughts occurring in the north of Italy. The experiences of the scientist will illustrate the importance of interpreting data correctly. It is crucial that students learn that interpreting historical environmental data allows them to create models and forecasts which help society prepare for them in the future.
Home / Awards & medals / Young Scientist Outstanding Poster Paper (YSOPP) Awards / 2010 / Claudia Faber
Dr. Heike Rauer and Dr. Martin Knapmeyer. Her EGU 2010 poster deals with acoustic soundings with three accelerometers in preparation for the CASSE experiment onboard the ROSETTA lander Philae. She is mainly interested in seismics in general as well as in planetary research.
Home / News / Webinars and online events / EGU bystander intervention workshop (with ADVANCEGeo)
ADVANCEGeo is a national, interdisciplinary, and multi-institutional partnership founded through a National Science Foundation award to improve workplace climate conditions through the promotion of bystander intervention education and policies to appropriately respond to and prevent harassment, bullying, and other identity-based exclusionary behaviors in research and learning environments. This online workshop will be run on 22 November 2024, 14:00-17:00CET, online and will address these topics directly in the course.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2019 / Hans Jørgen Kjøll
At EGU 2019 he presented some of the main results of his Ph.D., including new depositional age constraints for a Neoproterozoic sedimentary succession and calculations of strain imposed on these rocks by an intruding mafic dyke swarm during the emplacement of a Large Igneous Province in the Neoproterozoic, which eventually caused continental break-up.

Home / News / EGU news / EGU establishes new award for geoscience outreach and engagement
Yet, the value of these activities is often overlooked and less recognised in professional circles than traditional academic outputs, though this is changing. The EGU recognises that science outreach requires specific skills and dedication, making it a challenging and time-consuming enterprise.
Home / Awards & medals / Young Scientist Outstanding Poster Paper (YSOPP) Awards / 2009 / Guido Sciuto
Dr. Bernd Diekkrüger. His research focuses on the 3-D modelling of water and solute transport. The main objective of his research is to develop methods for a scale dependent treatment of patterns in properties and boundary conditions while simulating water, CO2 and solute transport from micro- to mesoscale catchments.
Home / News / Webinars and online events / Explaining science and communicating hazards for the public with science journalist Vedrana Simičević - Session 2
People process explanations differently when the idea of risk is involved, which needs to be taken into consideration while addressing the public. Participants will get tips on the best communication strategies in this type of situation and how to prevent their words from being taken out of context while discussing hazards, probabilities, forecasts, models or consequences of climate change in the media.
Home / News / Webinars and online events / EGU Science for Policy Hangout
Join us every month to discuss how researchers can more effectively engage with policymaking, get the scoop on upcoming science for policy opportunities, and virtually mingle in a relaxed, informal environment. You’ll be met with people working at the science-policy interface as well as others who may be interested in doing so! Each Hangout will feature an expert who is working at the interface of science and policy before dividing participants into breakout rooms to virtually network and continue the discussion!
