Home / News / Webinars and online events / Science Diplomacy 101: A guide for researchers
Science diplomacy is a broad term used to describe the various roles that science and researchers play in bridging geopolitical gaps and in finding solutions to international issues. In this webinar, our guest speakers Lene Topp, Science for Policy Expert, and João Paulo Horta Bettencourt, Research Fellow in the Shaping European Research Leaders for Marine Sustainability Programme, will introduce key science diplomacy concepts and outline the skills that are required to effectively engage in science diplomacy.
Home / Media Library / Researchers working on a mesocosm deployed for the ocean-acidification study
Researchers check a ‘mesocosm’, an eight-metre long floatation frame carrying a plastic bag with a capacity of 50 cubic metres. Nine of these mesocosms were deployed for a five-week long field study on ocean acidification conducted in the Kongsfjord off the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. The results are published in the EGU open access journal "Biogeosciences":http://www.biogeosciences.net.

Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Awards / 2014 / Mark Stacey
The results provide a petrogenetic basis for future investigation at a time when the Southern Gardar rift is the focus of critical metal exploration. Mark is currently on placement with a junior exploration company in Northern Finland and aspires to a career in the rare earth industry.
Home / Awards & medals / Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards / 2018 / Daniele Durante
He received his PhD in November 2017, with a thesis entitled “The gravity fields of Jupiter and Saturn as determined by Juno and Cassini”, under the supervise of Prof. Luciano Iess. His research interests cover radioscience experiments for the determination of gas giants’ interior structures.
Home / Education / Educational resources / What sedimentary rocks can tell us about the evolution of Earth’s atmosphere
Geologists study rocks to identify the clues they hold and decipher the answers they reveal. Dr Robert Rainbird, a sedimentologist at the Geological Survey of Canada, is examining ancient sedimentary rocks in the Temagami region of northeastern Ontario to look for evidence of the Great Oxygenation Event – the time at which Earth’s atmosphere first became oxygen-rich, setting the stage for the emergence of early life.
Home / Awards & medals / Arne Richter Awards for Outstanding Early Career Scientists / 2020 / François Massonnet
Massonet’s field of expertise builds on his PhD on the evaluation of climate simulation of sea ice and has since grown to encompass data assimilation, seasonal to decadal prediction and forecast verification for polar climates.
