Lessons in Geoscience: Plate Tectonics
To participate in the webinar "Lessons in Geoscience: Plate Tectonics", you must register in advance using the button below. Please note that this webinar will be recorded and published on the EGU YouTube channel the week after the event.
Plate tectonics is the unifying theory of the solid Earth and a key element of the Earth System. However, the way it is taught is often outdated and sometimes includes incorrect concepts. There are historical reasons for this, but most educational systems have been unable to address the problem properly. At this moment in history, it is crucial to convey accurately to our students how our planet works.
This webinar is the first of a series focused on bringing up-to-date geoscience information to educators, organised by the EGU Education Committee. In this edition, Assistant Professor João Duarte, president of the EGU Tectonics and Structural Geology Division. João will discuss the current state of the plate tectonics theory and how we got here.
This webinar is aimed at educators who teach geoscience topics, especially school teachers.
Conveners:
Teresita Gravina, Helder Pereira and Stavros Stathopoulos (EGU Education Committee Members)
Talk:
