EGU Science for Policy Hangout

Join us on the first Monday of every month to discuss how researchers can more effectively engage with policymaking, get the scoop on upcoming science for policy opportunities, and virtually mingle in a relaxed, informal environment. You’ll be met with people working at the science-policy interface as well as others who may be interested in doing so!

We are honoured to welcome Dr.rer.nat. Yolanda López-Maldonado, an Indigenous earth systems scientist working on various aspects of nature conservation. Her career has spanned diverse topics in both the natural and social sciences, while her focus has mainly been on the inclusion of Indigenous earth observations in contemporary science-policy fora. She has worked and collaborated with academic and non-academic organisations in multilateral settings at different UN levels, fostering discussions on how science can build trust between nations and support policies. Dr. López-Maldonado has been appointed Lead Author for the Global Environment Outlook Report 7 (GEO 7) under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). She is also a Young Scholar at the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, a Junior Fellow at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), and a recently appointed member of the Global Young Academy. She holds a PhD in Human Geography from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Germany. Her inspiring journey and insights are not to be missed!
