The 2015 Outstanding Student Poster (OSP) Award is awarded to Suzanne Lutfalla for the poster/PICO entitled:

Mineralogical control of soil organic carbon persistence at the multidecadal time scale (Lutfalla, S.; Barré, P.; Bernard, S.; Le Guillou, C.; Chenu, C.)

I am currently finishing my PhD at AgroParisTech, in Paris (France), under the supervision of Pr. Claire Chenu (AgroParisTech) and Dr. Pierre Barré (CNRS). My research focuses on the mechanisms of long term soil organic matter stabilization and carbon persistence in soils. During my PhD I have studied the chemistry of soil organic matter and the influence of mineralogy on the persistence of carbon in soils. Using the unique opportunity offered by long term bare fallows I was able to study stabilization processes in situ in five different European locations. The awarded poster presented results on the influence of the mineralogy on multidecadal carbon persistence in the bare fallow of Versailles (France), I showed that contrasted mineralogies at the fine scale (clay fraction, < 2µm) led to differences in carbon dynamics in terms of both carbon content and mechanism involved.
