Emergency Support Application
To apply for EGU’s Emergency Support, any researcher in the Earth, planetary or space science fields from a country, region or community identified by the United Nations High Commission of Refugees (UNHCR)’s emergency declarations protocol is automatically eligible to access funding and logistical support from EGU. The full list of emergency declarations currently supported is available on the UNHCR website. You cannot apply for support if your region/country/community is no longer listed with an active emergency declaration.
In addition to this list, the EGU volunteer Council may also vote for communities to be added to the list. These additions are eligible for support for a period of 1 year from the date of addition, unless a vote is made to extend their presence on this list. Current additions to the list are:
- Palestine (Council resolution from 10 October 2025)
Support available under the Emergency Support Policy
- Publications: If the corresponding author of a manuscript is affiliated with an institution affected by an emergency declaration the manuscript receives a standard waiver of the APC, according to the regular APC waiver scheme. This policy applies for a period of 1 year following the date of the emergency declaration, where the date of paper submission is the date of reference.
- General Assembly: 1 General Assembly registration waiver available per individual, to be used within 2 years of the declaration. Optional extension of abstract submission deadline without financial penalty ( regular abstract submission fees apply).
- Membership: 1 year’s complimentary membership available per individual, to be used within 2 years of the declaration (to facilitate access to award and medal nominations, funding schemes and other EGU membership benefits).
