Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) has the main objective to contribute to the advancement of academic research in addition to the improvement of marine science and technology by proceeding the fundamental research and development on marine, and the cooperative activities on the academic research related to the Ocean for the benefit of the peace and human welfare.
The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) is recruiting a total of one position for a Project Engineer.
The Seismogenic Zone Monitoring Research Group, Research and Development (R&D) Center for Earthquake and Tsunami (CEAT), JAMSTEC is soliciting applications for a Project Engineer who will be engaged in the engineering work described below to implement and manage the Dense Ocean Floor Network System for Earthquakes and Tsunamis (DONET) and borehole observatories which is reconsigned by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience.

1) System maintenance of DONET and borehole observatories and quality control of data from those systems.
2) Visualization and monitoring of spatio-temporal change of crustal activities using data from DONET and the borehole observatories.
1) Time series analysis of ground motion, tsunami, and crustal deformation data from the ocean floor network system, as well as quality checking of these data.
2) Maintenance and management of equipment related to the sea floor, including borehole, land station, circuitry, and Yokohama Research Institute equipment.
3) Improvement of sea-floor observation technology and analysis of these data.
4) Plotting data to visualize crustal activities.
5) Technical support to facilitate access to information and collaborative activities with other institutions.

Project Engineer: To contribute to the project, a Project Engineer is expected to manage, improve and advance the infrastructure. Establishment of technology based on a background of general technical knowledge such as information system, improvement of technical management functions is also inclusive.

(4) Contract Period
Period of employment is from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.
*Appointment date is negotiable. *One contract period is a maximum of 1 fiscal year. The contract will not be renewed. *The contract period mentioned above will change according to budget of this project. *In accordance with JAMSTEC’s bylaws, on reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change. *This position is a non-tenure-track, fixed-term employee position.

(3) Interview and appointment
Applicants will be selected based on submitted application materials, followed by an interview. Currently, interviews are scheduled in January or February, 2018. The successful applicant is expected to join us on April 1, 2018.
