Assessing the viability of offshore sites for carbon storage

Applications are invited for two Research Associate positions funded by a Research Grant Award from the Oil and Gas Technology Centre (OGTC) and represent the first such awards under their new Net Zero Solution Centre theme.

The projects will be undertaken in the Centre for Exploration Geoscience in the Institute of GeoEnergy Engineering (IGE) at Heriot-Watt University under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Professor John Underhill and the Co-Investigator (Co-I), Dr Rachel Jamieson and run for 2 years.

The successful appointee will be expected to undertake seismic interpretation of regional 3D and 2D subsurface datasets resulting in an accurate tectonic and stratigraphic interpretation and evaluation of potential UK offshore Carbon Storage sites. The expected deliverables include structural models and maps, which will be used to test, update or revise previous models of the area.

Applicants must have a degree in Geology or a closely related discipline and experience in 2D and 3D seismic interpretation of regional datasets using Schlumberger Petrel Seismic to Simulation software. A PhD in geosciences or a related subject would be desirable.

Potential candidates should have a good understanding of structural geology, seismic interpretation, regional stratigraphic evaluation, borehole data analysis and an ability to combine field and subsurface information.
