Research Assistant in Satellite Gravimetry (Doctoral Researcher)
Institute of Geodesy, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universität Hannover
The Institute of Geodesy invites applications for the position of a
Research Assistant (m/f/d) in Satellite Gravimetry
(Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 100 %)
starting 01.10.2020. The position is limited to 3 years.
The gravity field satellite missions GRACE, GOCE and recently GRACE-FO provide a central contribution to gravimetric Earth observation. The determination of mass changes by observing the global gravity field allows the quantification of, e.g., changes of the continental groundwater reservoirs or mean sea level, thus providing important indicators for the impact of climate change. Next-generation gravity field satellite missions will increasingly use novel measurement methods based on cold atoms. An independent research project at the DLR Institute of Satellite Geodesy and Inertial Sensing will investigate the use of atom interferometric accelerometers (CAI-ACC) in satellite constellations comparable to GRACE-FO.
Different realizations will be studied, e.g. hybrid or stand-alone CAI-ACC, which can also be used for navigation. Mission concepts based on these findings will be developed. For this purpose a simulator will be developed which allows the comparison of the different concepts based on the obtained gravity field solutions.
To qualify for the position, applicants must hold a completed scientific university degree in Geodesy and Geoinformatics or a related discipline. In addition, the following qualifications are expected: * Very good German and English language skills, spoken and written * Programming (MATLAB or Python) * FORTRAN knowledge is an advantage
Part-time employment is possible.
As an equal opportunities employer, Leibniz University Hannover intends to promote women and men. For this reason suitably qualified women are specifically invited to apply. Preference will be given to equally qualified applicants with disabilities.
