Professorship in Earth System Science
Beijing Normal University
Beijing Normal University
Beijing Normal University (BNU) grew out of the Education Department of Imperial University of Peking established in 1902, which initiated teacher training in China’s higher education. After the development for over a century, BNU has become a comprehensive and research-intensive university with its main characteristics of basic disciplines in sciences and humanities, teacher education and educational science.
According to 2020 QS World University Rankings, BNU is ranked the 277th among the world universities, and the 10th among Chinese mainland universities. In 2017, BNU has been listed in the “world-class universities”, and 11 disciplines have been selected for China’s “Double-First Class” Initiative. The disciplines of Education, Psychology, Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, Theater film & television，Geography graded A+ in the recent national evaluation.
At present, the university has established cooperative ties with about 500 universities and international organizations from more than 30 countries and regions. Each year, above 900 international professors and scholars are invited to lecture and research at the University. And BNU has around 2000 long-term international students, the scale of which ranks among top in China’s universities.
Systems Science of Beijing Normal University was founded quite early and has owned its outstanding features and advantages. In January 2012, Systems Science of BNU ranked No.2 in the discipline assessment in China. In April 2013, School of Systems Science was established in BNU.
Climate: Past, Present & Future (CL)
Nonlinear Processes in Geosciences (NP)
The complex earth system science group at the Beijing Normal University is lead by Prof. Xiaosong Chen. The group applies knowledge from statistical physics and complex system science to the earth system. Main collaboration between the group and the Potsdam Institute of Climate Impacts and the Bar-Ilan University on applying Complex network to predict El-nino and earthquakes.
The School of System is a young organization, thus there are vacancy for faculty staff, depending on the applicants will the position could be full-time or half-time. The background of the applicant should be either in earth system science (geoscience) or statistical physics (complex system) or both, and is expected to continue in his previous research field, however he is also expected to do collaborations in the field of interdisciplinary research of statistical physics and earth system science.
Please feel free to sent your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org for questions. He will be able to discuss about the research plan and come up with a formal application, which would be handed to the university.
