There is a vacancy for a PhD position in windstorm risk and damage modelling at the Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen, Norway. The position is for a fixed-term period of 3 years with the possibility of a 4th year with compulsory other work (e.g. teaching duties at the Institute). The position is associated with the research group in climate dynamics at the Geophysical Institute and the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research.
The PhD project aims to increase understanding of how windstorms and damage is related and incorporate this knowledge in a useful way for impact and adaptation purposes through the development of storm-damage relations.
The work will include using four decades of nationwide insurance data on municipality level and a newly finished high resolution atmospheric hindcast of wind. The project will further quantify possible changes in extreme winds due to future climate change by analyzing an ensemble of regional climate models and link the results to the developed storm-damage functions.
The application deadline is 1st September. For more details about the position, instructions on how to submit an application, and contact information, please see: https://www.jobbnorge.no/en/available-jobs/job/189968/research-fellow-phd-candidate-in-modelling-of-windstorm-damage-and-risk
