Full Professorship (W3) in Experimental Physics (Environmental Physics) (f/m/d)

Candidates are expected to conduct internationally recognized research regarding the modelling of the Earth’s environmental systems and climate. Possible, but not exclusive, subject areas are the terrestrial systems (soil, biosphere and/or cryosphere) within the climate system and/or the coupling between terrestrial systems and other compartments of the environment. We particularly seek candidates who develop and/or make use of modern concepts such as attribution science, machine learning, or data assimilation applied to advanced numerical models, but are not limited to those. The new focus will complement current research on atmospheric and aquatic systems as well as past climates at the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP). The Department of Physics and Astronomy, the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), and the Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE) offer a stimulating environment at Heidelberg University.

The successful candidate has a strong background in physics and climate dynamics or related fields, enabling contributions to the teaching program in physics at all levels. He or she will be a member of the directorate of the IUP and play a leading role in joint grant applications. Prerequisites for application are a university degree and (in accordance with Article 47, paragraph 2 of the Higher Education Law of the State of Baden- Württemberg) a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated junior professorship, an ERC grant, or an equivalent qualification.
