We are looking for a Researcher or a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in scientific computing within the Geohazards and Dynamics department in the tsunami research group. For more information related to the research group, see https://www.ngi.no/eng/Services/Technical-expertise/Tsunamis.
The research focuses on computational techniques applied to geohazards and tsunamis, and involves software engineering, Digital Twin model integration, and High-Performance Computing (HPC). This work is highly interdisciplinary, as it will integrate various types of geohazard models and data into a single data-driven evolutionary model.
We foresee developing a dynamic workflow that integrates earthquake data as well as numerical earthquake and landslide models with tsunami models, aiming at conducting tsunami simulations and uncertainty quantification in near-real time. The models will be tested and run at some of the most powerful HPC facilities in Europe, and an important part of the work will be enabling the efficient use of the codes at these HPC systems.
The position is related to two new EU Horizon Europe projects that will start in fall 2022, and an ongoing EU H2020 project (eFlows4HPC, https://eflows4hpc.eu/). The work will be conducted in a highly collaborative international research environment, with opportunities for shorter exchange visits to collaborators in other European countries. One of the ambitious long-term goals is to integrate digital twin components into Destination Earth, and to this end, the project requires sustainable and scalable software development.
