Associate Professor/Professor - Mineral Systems

The Department of Earth Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position in the area of Mineral Systems. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023. The successful candidate is eligible to be named the W.M. Keck Chair in Geology for a five-year term, which will be renewable following a favorable review.
Applicants must have earned a PhD in geology, Earth or planetary sciences, or a closely related discipline, with a clearly demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. We invite applicants pursuing innovative and impactful research on any aspect of mineral systems, including field-based, experimental or data-science-oriented approaches that explore how Earth’s mineral systems evolve and interact with the geo- and/or biosphere. Possible areas of specialization may include, but are not limited to, mineral exploration (especially critical minerals important to green energy and sustainability), mineral records of igneous and metamorphic evolution, fluid-rock interactions, biomineralogy and environmental mineralogy. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.
Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute substantively to both graduate and undergraduate teaching in the Department.
Candidates are also expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment demonstrated through the application materials. Demonstration of how the candidate would bring new perspectives to the Department, experiences and meaningful plans for connecting to groups that have been historically marginalized in the geosciences are criteria that will be considered in our evaluation of excellence.
