Job description

The following position is available in the University of Kassel, Faculty of Organic Agricultural Sciences, Department of Environmental Chemistry (Prof. Dr. Bernard Ludwig) as of 04/01/2023:

Part-time with 65% of the regular working time of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until 31.03.2026 within the framework of the German Research Foundation (DFG) funded third-party project “Experimental studies on the optimization of infrared spectroscopic characterizations and quantifications of soil organic matter on scales of increasing complexity: importance of band shifts, spectral variable selection and subtraction approaches” (“Experimentelle Untersuchungen zur Optimierung infrarotspektroskopischer Charakterisierungen und Quantifizierungen von organischer Bodensubstanz auf Skalen ansteigender Komplexität: Bedeutung von Bandenverschiebungen, Spektralvariablenselektion und Subtraktionsansätzen“) according to § 2 para. 2 WissZeitVG. The possibility of a PhD is given.

Your tasks: Scientific collaboration in the above-mentioned project.


  • Completed scientific university studies (Master or Diploma) with good to very good results in agricultural sciences, soil science, geoecology, chemistry or similar fields. The required degree must be received no later than the date of hire.
  • Experience with soil chemical or soil biological analyses in the laboratory
  • Good knowledge of common computer software
  • Good understanding of statistical data analysis and basic knowledge of application programs
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Willingness to work independently and publish results in international journals

Advantageous are:

  • Experience in conducting soil science experiments
  • Thorough and independent working methods
  • A high degree of organizational skills
  • Experience with infrared spectroscopy
  • Confident handling of the software R
